About us

Since acquiring Casa do Alto in October 2016, we have been lovingly transforming both the house and the gardens into the welcoming retreat they are today. Every winter, when we close our doors to guests, we dedicate ourselves to improving another part of the property — step by step, adding more comfort, beauty, and character.

What began with fresh paint, new flower beds, and a brand-new kitchen has grown into so much more. Over the years, we have renovated the bathrooms, refreshed the swimming pool, redesigned the bar and reception area, and paved the driveway. At the same time, we put great energy into caring for the gardens, ensuring they remain a flourishing and peaceful place for our guests.

Casa do Alto is not just a building — it is a team effort filled with passion and care. In 2021, Marloes became the sole owner, bringing her vision to life in every detail. That same year, Vânia joined the adventure, bringing positive energy and warm hospitality to daily life at the house. Teresa has been part of Casa do Alto for nearly 20 years, a familiar face for many returning guests. Elisabete is our “jack of all trades,” equally skilled front of house and behind the scenes, always ready with a smile. Hilda and Isabel make sure everything runs smoothly and take care of the little details that make each stay carefree.

And of course, Casa do Alto would not be complete without its four-legged family members. Our dogs love to spend time in the garden, always ready for cuddles, play, and plenty of attention.

We also believe in running Casa do Alto as a sustainable business, doing our part to protect the environment. Our water is heated by solar panels, and we generate much of our own electricity with solar energy. We offer free filtered tap water to reduce the use of plastic bottles, and we invite our guests to help us save resources by opting out of daily housekeeping and towel changes. To avoid food waste, we don’t serve buffets — instead, every meal is freshly prepared to order.

Communication is never a problem at Casa do Alto. Our team speaks Portuguese and English, and we understand Spanish as well. Marloes also speaks Dutch and understands German, making it easy to welcome guests from many different countries.
